Test Your Agape

with Chuck Smith on 05/24/2013

God wanted a word to describe how we ought to “love” others, and He chose the same Greek term, agape, that He used to describe His own love. We are to love others just as God loves us.  So what does it mean, exactly,...

The Coming One

with Jim Gallagher on 05/22/2013

Matthew 11:3 “Are You the Coming One, or do we look for another?” The circumstances of life often cause us to question God. It is hard sometimes to reconcile what we are going through with who God is compassionate and good. This happened to John...

Never Sinned

with Carl Kerby on 05/20/2013

I’ve been asked a lot of questions recently by high school and college students.  I though I’d share part of one of those conversations.  Here goes: Lisa:  “In the Bible it states the earth was meant to be perfect before Adam sinned and everything...

What’s the royal law?

with Chuck Smith on 05/17/2013

Jesus said, “On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets” (Matthew 22:40). That’s quite a summary statement! What two is He addressing—and what about the other eight? When you love God supremely and when you love your neighbor as yourself, you have...

Be Not Afraid

Saturday, May 25, 2013

"I create the fruit of the lips: Peace, peace to him who is far off and to him who is near," says the Lord, "and I will heal him." But the wicked are like the troubled sea, when it cannot rest, whose waters cast up mire and dirt.
Isaiah 57:19-20

Can you imagine God pacing the floor, worried and stressed over some situation? It doesn't happen.

He inspired the prophet Isaiah to write, "You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You" (Isaiah 26:3).

And near the end of His earthly ministry, Jesus promised, "Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you ... Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid" (John 14:27).

Paul said the peace of God is a peace that passes human understanding (Philippians 4:7). In a world filled with tremendous pressure and turmoil, how wonderful it is to experience such comfort.

Satan often tries to take me away from the peace of God by whispering, "But what if...?" If you listen to Satan's challenges, you will begin to lose God's peace. You begin to wonder, "How will I work my problem out?"

"Don't be afraid," Jesus said. "Keep your mind stayed on God," Isaiah said. Remember the wisdom in those words. And remember that when we have no answers, God knows all. Trust Him?and take the peace He offers.

Father, we thank You for the gift of peace, and we offer our lives that You would rule and reign in our hearts. Teach us to keep our hearts and our minds steadfast in Jesus Christ.

In Jesus' precious name, amen.
